Richard Dorfman is the founder of TransMedia Institute. He is also the founder of Richard Alan Incorporated, a New York-based investment and advisory firm focused on the media and information industries. He is also Fund Manager at Maxsar Holdings, a private investment firm that invests in publicly-traded media and information companies.
Mr. Dorfman began his career in 1987 as an investment banker at Broadview Associates where he specialized in mergers and acquisitions involving information services and information technology companies. He was also the firm’s Director of Valuation Services. In 1994, Mr. Dorfman joined Jefferies & Company as Senior Vice President for mergers and acquisitions where he expanded his practice to include media and entertainment companies. He has been involved as either principal or advisor in dozens of transactions and has developed a sizable network of contacts in the private equity and venture capital communities.
He is currently Chairman of the Board of T3i Group LLC and is a former board member of Curious Pictures Corporation and Proxy Monitor Inc.
Mr. Dorfman is frequently quoted in the press, and his comments have appeared in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Bloomberg News, Barron’s, Forbes, Fortune, BusinessWeek, Variety, CNN Money, MarketWatch and TheStreet.com, among others. He holds an undergraduate degree from Columbia University and a Masters in Business Administration from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University.
